Having a well running automobile cooling system is not only important for your comfort, but it is also so that the health of your car doesn't deteriorate due to overheating. The engine needs to maintain a certain temperature in order to work correctly, therefore making sure you bring your car in for regular tune ups and maintenance can save you thousands of dollars in the long run.

The cooling system of a vehicle is made up of many parts They made to push coolant through the engine to make sure it runs properly without overheating.

Parts of the Cooling System

Coolant – This is also known as antifreeze. It's the liquid that travels throughout the engine to keep its temperature down. Changing it every 30,000 miles is key to avoiding costly repairs. The coolant is stored in the coolant reservoir.

Radiator This is known as the “heart” of the entire cooling system. The radiator relies on the water pump to push the heat throughout the system. The radiator helps to eliminate the heat.

Water Pump – The pump that pushes the coolant through the engine. Without this, the engine would overheat.

Pressure Cap  The only place in the cooling system where pressure can escape and when the pressure reaches the maximum point, the valve opens.

Thermostat This will tell you about the temperature between the engine and the radiator. It also opens and closes to let coolant in as needed.

Radiator Fan – The cooling fan will turn on when the coolant goes above a specific temperature to prevent overheating.

Heater Core – It is a smaller radiator that blows hot air back into your car’s cabin keeping it warm.

Hoses – The system is composed of four main hoses that help to connect it all together and cool the engine.
